PEKIN (WEEK) – The Pekin City Council has signed off on a settlement with fire truck manufacturer to avoid costly legal action on three damaged vehicles.
The council voted unanimously to approve the settlement with Pierce Manufacturing Inc. for repairs after the fire department found corrosion on a pair of fire engines and a ladder truck.
Cost to the city to repair the equipment is $65,304, but the council is authorizing staff to spend a maximum $100,000 “to address any unforeseen repairs,” according to the staff’s report.
“This cost seemed reasonable in comparison to any long drawn out legal proceeding,” staffers said.
Pierce built the trucks between 2000 and 2010, and the corrosion developed within the warranty period, city officials said.
